Numerical Aperture (NA)
  • is defined as being equal to 𝑛 𝑠𝑖𝑛 πœƒ, where:
    • 𝑛 is the refractive index of the medium between the objective lens and the object (nβ‰…1 for air)
    • πœƒ is half the angular aperture (or acceptance angle of image-forming rays) of the objective lens
