- Archaeological Anthropology has been derived from the broad field of Archaeology concerning the study of the extinct cultures
- Social Anthropology – studies patterns of behavior
- Cultural Anthropology – studies cultural meaning, including norms and values
- Linguistic Anthropology – studies how language influences social life
- Biological/Physical Anthropology – studies biological and behavioral aspects of human beings, their related non-human primates, and their extinct hominin ancestors
- Philosophical Anthropology – studies what is it to be human
