Probability Independence
- two events are independent if the outcome or occurrence of the first DOES NOT affect the outcome or occurrence of the second so that the probability is NOT changed
- Thus events 𝐴 and 𝐵 are independent iff the following holds:
- 𝐏(𝐴|𝐵) = 𝐏(𝐴)
- 𝐏(𝐵|𝐴) = 𝐏(𝐵)
Independence - Variants
- Pairwise Independence/Independent vs Mutual/Collective Independence / Mutually Independent
- Probability Independence (Marginal Independence - Conditional Independence)
